What are Implant-Supported Dentures?

Implant-supported dentures are a type of dental prosthesis that combines the stability of dental implants with the convenience and aesthetics of dentures. They are designed to replace multiple missing teeth or an entire arch of teeth. Implants are surgically placed in the jawbone, and the dentures are securely attached to these implants, providing a stable and comfortable fit. Unlike traditional dentures, implant-supported dentures do not rely on adhesives or clasps for support, allowing for improved chewing ability, speech, and overall confidence. They offer a long-lasting solution that closely mimics natural teeth' look, feel, and function.

Why Choose Implant-Supported Dentures?

Implant-supported dentures are preferred for those seeking a comprehensive tooth replacement solution. Compared to traditional dentures, the enhanced stability they provide brings a sense of confidence and freedom. With no worries about slippage or discomfort, individuals can enjoy a wide range of foods and quickly regain their ability to chew. Beyond the functional benefits, implant-supported dentures also contribute to improved oral health. Stimulating the jawbone like natural tooth roots, they help preserve its density and prevent the sunken appearance often associated with bone loss. The natural aesthetics of implant-supported dentures seamlessly blend with existing teeth, restoring a beautiful smile. With their durability and long-term reliability, implant-supported dentures offer a lasting solution that positively impacts oral function and overall well-being.

Am I a candidate?

Determining candidacy for implant-supported dentures requires a comprehensive evaluation. Firstly, we will evaluate the density of your jawbone to ensure it can support the implants properly. We will assess your oral health, checking for any untreated gum disease or tooth decay that may affect the procedure's success. Your general health, such as uncontrolled diabetes or habits like smoking, will also be considered. It is essential that you are committed to maintaining good oral hygiene and attending regular dental check-ups for long-term success.

Post Treatment Care

It is normal to experience pain, bleeding, swelling, and seeping after oral surgery. Avoid pulling on your lip or probing the area with your tongue or fingers to ensure proper healing. For relief, you can take ibuprofen or acetaminophen as directed. Swelling may become more noticeable after two to three days, but you can minimize it by applying a cold compress to the face near the implant site for up to 20 minutes on and at least 20 minutes off. Do not place ice directly on your skin. Warm salt water rinses, brushing and flossing as instructed, and avoiding hot, spicy, carbonated, and alcoholic foods and drinks for the first 24 hours are recommended. Restrict activities on the surgery day and gradually resume regular activity the following day. Gently rinse with warm salt water three times a day after the first day, and stick to a soft diet. Follow all prescribed medications, including antibiotics, to prevent infection. Contact our office immediately if you notice excessive bleeding or discomfort after 48-72 hours.
